spring break now vs then + a little about me

Laughing at myself, now 39 years old, waking up at 5 or 6am to write emails, get my kids to school, working the 9-5, doing kid activities, then crawling to bed. When back in my early 20s I'd be somewhere random for spring break, spending money I didn't really have, drinking, staying up too late and chasing girls. I was a good student in high school, college etc. Earned both MIS and Math degrees in college, but never knew what I wanted to do. My school counselor told me to join a consulting firm, but I didn't want to work for Deloitte or anything like that. I couldn't figure out what those guys ACTUALLY did (still kinda don't). So I joined a company that repaired heavy parts for power plants (random I know). I was hired to help them roll out a new ERP platform (which we eventually scrapped because it was too expensive). After that job, I stayed in that industry in various roles but I just always had that itch to do my own thing (plus I wanted to make more money). I made my way into marketing, then business development, then changed industries entirely into IT consulting. Had that "aha' moment about 5 years ago that, yeah, maybe I should've listened to that school counselor (whoops). But I still have that itch, which is one of the key reasons why I started my solo business a year ago. I wish I would've started this specific journey in my early/mid 20s, but there's no way to roll back the clock. There's so much power in building your solo business. You own it. You don't report to anyone. You create the system. You make it happen. You create it the way you want it. You don't have to wait on anyone to get anything done.
