ConvertKit automation insights

Read Time: 3m

I learned a couple of critical things this week about ConvertKit’s automation this week.

I’m passing it on to you so that you can avoid the hours of testing I put in.

1. It seems like Visual Automations is a bit buggy.

I have 3 different lead magnets and the same person should be able to go access these, then go through a simple email sequence to move them from free → feedback → paid product/service.

For some reason, in Visual Automations, if someone is already tagged, it will not automatically add another tag to the subscriber.

I want email subscribers to be tagged on each lead magnet they expressed interest in so I have an idea of who’s interested in what.

For example, if you subscribe and get my ConvertKit guide, I’ll tag you as someone who joined from my ConvertKit lead magnet.

Then let’s say, if you’re interested in my 𝕏Pro course to add followers and you enter your email there, Visual Automations will NOT tag you as someone who subscribed through that lead magnet.

It only keeps the original tag - which is frustrating.

2. Rules gets the job done

Instead of Visual Automations (which I want to use), I tried out the Rules functionality (i.e., if X happens do Y).

Worked like a charm.

A 2nd tag could be added and that subscriber would enter the 2nd email sequence.

What I’m doing going forward:

  1. Reaching out to ConvertKit directly to see what I'm missing / provide feedback
  2. Reaching out to Jason Resnick (@rezzz)

If you have any guidance, feel free to reply to this email.

I’m always willing to learn.

Email is a critical component of my solopreneur strategy and I recommend it be for yours as well.

If you need help with the basics of getting ConvertKit set up, setting up your Creator Network profile, figuring out how to get recommended (i.e. grow your email list faster) and setting up your first email sequence, book a 1:1 consulting call with me and we’ll knock it out.

Cheers to Accelerating your Solopreneur Sales.
